Happy Birthday to Activist Alice Walker – Author of The Color Purple

Week in History: Negro Leagues begin, Alice Walker is born, and Black History Month begins.

In 1983, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her novel The Color Purple, which has since been adapted in both a movie and a musical. She has remained an activist, saying, “Activism is the rent I pay for living on the planet.”
